Parasite has gotten a second trailer and it’s full of quotes from critics haling the film as a masterpiece. An original project co-written and directed by cult South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, the dark satire premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, and went on to take home the event’s coveted Palme d’Or. Unsurprisingly, Neon plans to release Parasite domestically in the midst of this year’s awards season, in a bid to further tap into its early rave reviews and potentially transform the film into an Oscar contender across the board....

You may still be waiting for your Mac Pro to arrive, but OWC is ready to sell you a CPU upgrade once it does. The company offers a choice of four E5 2600-series processors, ranging from an 8-core 2.6GHz chip with 20MB cache for $950, to a 12-core 2.7GHz processor for $1480. We first confirmed that CPU upgrades were possible last December. The company says the upgraded processors offer speed gains ranging from 25 percent to 46 percent over Apple’s base model 4-core 1600-series processor....

Guillermo del Toro’s love letter to movies and TV shows about giant piloted-robots battling giant monsters, Pacific Rim is getting a sequel in 2018 in the form of Pacific Rim: Uprising. Daredevil season 1 showrunner and Spartacus TV show creator Steven DeKnight is calling the shots on the Pacific Rim sequel, though del Toro helped to get the project off the ground after it was seemingly-almost canceled, apocalypse-style. Meanwhile, in front of the camera, the Star Wars franchise’s John Boyega is leading the way as the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), from the first Pacific Rim installment....

With the release of OS X El Capitan later this year, Apple will bring a setting that has been part of iOS for some time over to the Mac. The setting allows users to determine whether they want to enter their password every time they download a paid app or in-app purchase, or if they would rather only have to enter it once for a given 15-minute window. A second setting will also allow users to permanently save their password for free downloads, ensuring that you never have to login to download another free app....

In the face of new competition from Apple, smartwatch maker Pebble has released an update to the device’s firmware that enables all-new activity tracking features for health applications. To accompany this update, new Pebble apps from Jawbone and others that integrate with the health and fitness tracking features. The app by Misfit will be capable of monitoring sleep and movement using the watch’s built-in sensors, while Jawbone’s “UP” watchface will be able to track similar data and sync back to the Jawbone UP service via a smartphone connection....

Director Paul Feig is back with Last Christmas, a delightfully kind-spirited romantic comedy about getting by during a particularly rough Christmas season. The report follows a disappointing Q3 report in November in which PayPal had missed revenue expectations and cut its outlook for the full year. The report sent PayPal shares down 16% in late trading. CEO Dan Schulman remarked, “2021 was one of the strongest years in PayPal’s history. In a blog post today, Mac/iOS developer Panic explained why a recent version of its venerable Transmit FTP/File transfer app no longer uploads to iCloud, and it turns out, other services: The developers are taking their case public a few days after the app update was released in an effort to persuade Apple to change their minds in this case. Seems like a no-brainer. What say you Apple? Also, at Apple’s request, we had to remove the ability to “Send” files to other services, including iCloud Drive....

Word on the street is that Motorola, which is owned by Lenovo, is going to bring back the RAZR brand in a big way this year. That handset will allegedly be a foldable smartphone, which will retail for around $1,500 when it arrives sometime this year. Motorola is reportedly going to showcase the device sometime in February, so we don’t have long before the company makes it officially official. And, for now, details on the upcoming device are still pretty light....

OnePlus today announced the roll out of OxygenOS 2.2.1 for its 2016 flagship killer, the OnePlus 2. Among other things, the update introduces the ability to directly shoot photos in RAW format on the handset using the stock camera application. Previously, shooting pictures in RAW format required one to use a third-party camera app like Manual camera or ProShot. Other changes in the update mainly include bug fixes and improved compatibility....

A new jailbreak from a Chinese team dubbed “Pangu” has been released, and reports are spreading quickly around the Internet that it does indeed successfully install the famed “Cydia” jailbreak package installer application. It appears that this jailbreak is similar to the TaiG side of the evasi0n jailbreak from last year in that it also includes a sketchy Chinese pirated app installer. The jailbreak can be obtained from the Pangu team’s website, and there’s currently only one ....
