A patent application geared to allowing the Apple Pencil to work with Mac trackpads has today been granted. Although the patent was originally filed back in 2014, it was only published in May of this year. As we mentioned then, the version of the Apple Pencil described in the patent is significantly more sophisticated than the current model, having the additional ability to work as both an air mouse and joystick....

Apple succeeded in having the patents declared invalid by a panel of judges who form an entity known as The Patent Trial and Appeal Board. But now the US Supreme Court has agreed to rule on a claim that this process is unconstitutional… Bloomberg Quint reports that the question is whether the judges needed to have been directly appointed by the president in order to assume their powers....
