Apple supplier Pegatron has admitted to being “aghast” at the kickback scandal involving an Apple manager and its recently-acquired Kaedar subsidiary — but says it shouldn’t affect relations between the two firms. Apple employee Paul Devine pleaded not guilty to money laundering and wire fraud charges after prosecutors said he received at least $1 million from half a dozen Asian suppliers for providing information. Through an elaborate system of bank accounts and a front company, Devine took payments in exchange for sharing confidential data, including sales forecasts for unreleased iPod and iPhone models, product roadmaps and sales reports....

Apple has been saying the future of TV is apps since it launched the Apple TV 4 last fall, and now Papa John’s is delivering on that pitch by letting you order pizza straight from your TV. The pizza restaurant is celebrating being the first national chain to bring food ordering to the Apple TV by offering customers an automatic 25% when using the new tvOS app to checkout. In theory, Papa John’s may be on to something genius....

FiftyThree has steadily been turning its Paper app into a full-fledged notebook from just a basic sketching app, and the latest update for iPhone and iPad goes even further. Paper already supported plenty of sharing options for notes and drawings within the app to destinations like Facebook and Twitter, and version 3.5 adds a new iOS Sharing Extension so you can easily send images and notes from other apps directly to Paper....

Driver Mode is supposed to prevent you from ever having to touch your phone in the car. Instead of fiddling with buttons, you can simply say “Hello Dragon” to begin a voice comm. Driver Mode can be set to turn on automatically when your phone connects to the car’s Bluetooth system, docking station, or by audio cable. In theory, Dragon can also turn on Driver Mode when the car starts moving by detecting the phone’s G location....

Bleep doesn’t require any personal information — email address, or phone number — at the time of registration. You can still feed those data, if you want, and it will be used to notify you when your friends have joined the chatting app. But typically, all you’re supposed to do is pick a nickname. Rarely have I been as impressed by a remote access application as I have by the newly released Parallels Access for Android. Where most other solutions are complicated to set up, clumsy to use, or work intermittently and inconsistently, Parallels Access breezes through everything and still manages to pack a few cool features of its own. Yesterday we noted that Best Buy retail sources indicated the popular ‘Pebble’ Bluetooth smart watch would be landing on at least some of the retailer’s store shelves this weekend. Today Pebble and Best Buy have finally made things official by announcing the partnership that will bring the most successful Kickstarter-backed device of all time to both Best Buy online and across all its U.S. brick and mortar locations. Popular virtualization software company Parallels has been acquired by Corel. The creative software veteran who has produced Corel Draw, WordPerfect, and Painter Pro says it will put “significant investment” into the Parallels software going forward. Corel made the Parallels acquisition announcement in a press release today: Corel’s CEO, Patrick Nichols, said he sees the two companies’ software as “highly complementary.” As for the future, Corel plans to put a lot of resources behind Parallels and grow its entire portfolio of software for all operating systems....

PayPal has updated its iOS app with support for loyalty cards from a long list of selected retailers. The app allows you to select one of the supported companies from the list and scan the barcode on your loyalty or discount card, then saves the data in a digital wallet. The update puts PayPal in competition with Apple’s stock Passbook application, which also allows for storage of loyalty cards and other similar information....
