What Makes You Eligible For The PenFed Credit Union Membership?

If you are looking for a credit financial organization to help you build and smoothly run your finances, and you are currently residing in Virginia, the Pentagon Federal Credit Union is your best option. 

As mentioned earlier, anyone with a connection with the government or military is eligible to join the Union. These were the original criteria: those who have served or currently serving in the United State Military or Uniformed service, employees of the US government, or related to those who belong to the groups above. 

After a while, the process changed and just anybody is allowed to join. As a regular applicant, you can be a part of PenFed by joining the National Military Family Organization or the Voices for America’s Troops for $15 and $14 respectively. 

What Are The PenFed Credit Union Eligibility Requirements?

You must be a permanent or residing citizen of the United States 

You must have a government-issued Identity Card or citizenship and be ready to submit it 

You must be 18 years of age and above

You must open a savings account with a minimum of $5

You would have success joining PenFed if you meet all these criteria. Sadly, a non-citizen cannot apply, membership doesn’t extend to this group.

How To Join The PenFed Credit Union

If you have checked that meet the eligibility requirements, you can join. Simply go to a PenFed Credit Union branch close to you and fill out the membership application form. 

You can also fill out this form online on the PenFed website. You would have to upload those documents mentioned above. 

Here is how you go about it:

Go to your browser and visit the website penfed. org. There you can apply for both membership and online banking. You will see a “Join Now” option on the homepage, click on it You will be redirected to a page that will show you how to register, step by step. Fill out the personal data form with your correct details.  You will be asked your reason for joining the PenFed, that is, your eligibility status. Select the group you fall under from the lists shown to you.

Note: This registration is a one-time thing, if you make any mistakes in your personal information, you cannot change it. So, double-check to see that everything was imputed correctly, from the spelling of your name, the digits on your contact number and your email address. 

Also, make sure that the documents you uploaded are the right ones. So that your application will be completed 

There is a time limit a person can spend on a particular PenFed application page. There is no reason as to why this is, but you cannot stay on a particular page past the given time. So, while checking and double-checking your details, do so quickly so you won’t be sent out the page and you would have to start afresh.

Once you are sure that all your details are correct and all documents are uploaded appropriately, glance through the terms and conditions. You are expected to click on the check box to agree to those terms to complete your registration. 

After completing the registration, you would have to wait to know if you were accepted. You might be rejected if you do not meet those requirements or if there is an error in your application that the system couldn’t verify. Your confirmation status would be sent to your email address or phone number. This is part of the reason it is important to put in your accurate contact information.
